BAU, the World's Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials and Systems, is the biggest and most important event in the sector. The next BAU takes place from January 16 to 21, 2017 at the Messe München exhibition center. Around 2,000 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and approximately 250,000 visitors from all around the world are expected to take part.

The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) is responsible for a range of government policies which are reflected in the name of the ministry itself. For more than 25 years the Ministry has worked to protect the public from environmental toxins and radiation and establish an intelligent and efficient use of raw materials; it has advanced climate action and promoted a use of natural resources that conserves biodiversity and secures habitats. In December 2013 the Chancellor issued a decree transferring responsibility for urban development, housing, rural infrastructure, public building law, building, the construction industry and federal buildings to the BMUB, thus bringing the ministry key additional responsibilities from the former Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Urban Development (BMVBS). The BMUB is now also tasked with creating the conditions for good housing standards and intact cities and with raising the quality of structural engineering, building technology and construction materials in Germany still higher. These are the cornerstones of high quality of life and a pleasant social climate.

THE BAVARIAN CHAMBER OF ARCHITECTS

The Bavarian Chamber of Architects (ByAK) is a body of public law and fulfils the responsibilities of public administration. Supervisory authority is the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior.The Bavarian Chamber of Architects represents the interests of its members: about 23,000 architects and interior architects, landscape architects and urban planners in the Federal State of Bavaria. Only those persons who are registered in the Chamber of Architects in their respective federal state are entitled to call themselves “architect”, “interior architect”, “landscape architect” and/or “urban planner”. These occupational titles are protected by the rules and regulations of the Chambers of Architects of the German Federal States.
The principal tasks of the ByAK are – as noted in the Bayerische Baukammerngesetz (Bavarian Law of Building Chambers)
  • to strengthen the awareness of architectural culture
  • to act in the interest of its members in public and at political level
  • to provide consumer protection
  • offering general consulting services for members and the public and expert advice in technical and legal matters to all members
  • to carry out public relations for the architectural profession
  • to offer education and training in all aspects concerning architecture
  • to promote and facilitate architectural competitions
  • to offer support in all questions of planning and building handicapped accessible physical structures

NETWORK FOR ARCHITECTURE EXCHANGE NAX

Since 2002 the Federal Chamber of German Architects (Bundesarchitektenkammer) supports German architects and planners with the Network for Architecture Exchange NAX in their move abroad. The aim of NAX is to make the international exchange of planning services easier and to promote the professional mobility of architects and planners. NAX brings together internationally experienced architects and planners with colleagues, developers and investors in Europe and worldwide.
The variety of German planning quality is shown in the portfolio of the 1500 NAX members and its inner circle of 46 internationally working architectural practices, which are the signboard of NAX. 
NAX and its members are in constant contact with representatives from politics and diplomacy and are taking part in foreign delegation visits of the federal ministries and the ministries of the “Länder”.
With events and workshops, with the participation in relevant fairs, with its country database, exhibitions and publications NAX aims to promote the brand „Architecture Made in Germany“ on a national and international level. The work of NAX is supported by numerous Network Partners.
